Henri Giraud

The history of Champagne Henri Giraud is indeed rich and fascinating. Founded in 1625, its roots are deeply intertwined with the terroir of Aÿ and the legacy of the Hémart family. The Giraud family, including Léon Giraud, who revitalized the vineyard after the devastation of phylloxera and World War I, and Claude Giraud, who since 1990 has reinvigorated the use of oak barrels from the Argonne Forest, has played a pivotal role in the house’s continued excellence.

Today, Henri Giraud is known for its distinctive cuvées, like the “Argonne,” crafted with meticulous care in new oak barrels. The house is also innovating with winemaking techniques involving sandstone to enhance the wine’s interaction with its lees. With a limited production of just 250,000 bottles annually, including exclusive grande cuvées, Henri Giraud champagnes are prized by collectors and connoisseurs for their complexity and intensity.

Their strong commitment to sustainability is demonstrated through high environmental value certification, underscoring their dedication to both quality and environmental stewardship. The house’s philosophy, inspired by Henri Giraud’s own words, embraces natural winemaking with a focus on authenticity and freedom, avoiding rigid constraints to allow the terroir and the vintage to truly express themselves.
